Head of the Department of European Affairs, During Her Meeting with the Swiss Ambassador, Confirms the Importance of reopening Swiss Embassy in Baghdad

On June 21, 2022. the Head of the Department of European Affairs, Ambassador Safia Talib Al-Suhail, met the Swiss Ambassador to Jordan and the non-resident ambassodor to Iraq, Mr Lukas Jasser, at the Ministry’s headqurters, on the occasion of the conclusion of his tasks in Baghdad. During the meeting, they discussed means of developing the bilateral relations between the two countries and open prospects for cooperation in various political, economic and security fields, in addition to discussing a number of outstanding issues, including a proposed memorandum of understanding between the two countries on exchange of information related to money laundering and terrorism financing and the importance of reopening the Swiss embassy in Baghdad, as it has a positive impact in enhancing and developing bilateral relations.

Ambassador Al-Suhail affirmed the Iraqi government’s keenness to enhance the historic relations with the Swiss Confederation, and expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all forms of support to reopen the Swiss Embassy in Baghdad, in coordination with the Iraqi concerned authorities.
