It was with profound sadness and heartfelt grief that we learnt of the passing of the great Iraqi poet Mudhaffar Al-Nawab, who passed away in a hospital in Sharjah in the Emirates after a long struggle with illness at the age of 88.

The late was one of the most prominent poets of Iraq, as he began his poetic career since the fifties and sixties of the last century, and on the day of his passing the pages of that stage of the history of Iraqi poetry, which was characterized by richness, abstraction, deviation from familiar stereotypes, and a spirit of rebellion, were turned.

May God grant rest to the deceased’s soul, make his abode in Heaven, and give solace and reward to his family and admireners.
