Head of the Department of Human Rights Meets Director of the Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI)

On 22/3/2022, Ambassador Dr Hisham Al-Alawi, Head of the Department of Human Rights, met Ms Danielle Bell, Director of the Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of Dr Muhammad Turki Abbas, Director-General of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Justice, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

During the meeting, they resumed talks on the issues which were discussed in the previous meeting between the two sides, and they discussed the development of joint action between them.

During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Alawi gave a brief presentation on the results of the meetings he had held with Ms Michelle Bachelet, High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Ms Gillian Triggs, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, and other meetings on the sidelines of His participation in the high-level segment of the meetings of the Human Rights Council earlier March in Geneva.

On her part, Ms Bell expressed her pleasure in the constructive cooperation between the Department of Human Rights and the United Nations, and her appreciation for the role played by the Department to overcome the difficulties through coordination and opening channels of communication with other government bodies.

Counsellor Firas Hasan, third Secretary Alia Ehsan and third Secretary Athra Samir from the Human Rights Department have attended the meeting.
