Pakistani Prime Minister Receives Foreign Minister Fuad Hussain
The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has received the Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussain and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of his participation in the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Mr Fuad Hussain conveyed the greetings of both His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr Barham Salih, and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhemi, as His Excellency congratulated the Pakistani Prime Minister on the occasion of the Pakistani National Day.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance and develop the bilateral relations between the two countries on issues of common interest, the most important of which is the security aspect to achieve the common interest of the two friendly countries. The Minister confirmed that the Iraqi government works to build good and balanced relations with the countries of the world, according to an independent foreign policy based on common interests, respect of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, which strengthens Iraq’s role in maintaining regional and international security by adopting the principle of dialogue and communication to resolve the outstanding problems, avoiding the use of force or threat, and striving for Iraq to be a factor and a source of stability in its regional and international environment, where Iraq had taken many initiatives to bridge differences and resolve problems between the countries of the region by peaceful means, especially in its regional environment.
The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of common interest and confirmed the importance of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the need to make collective efforts to address contemporary challenges.
On his part, the Pakistani Prime Minister commended the developed relations between the two friendly countries, and ways to develop them, affirming his country’s support for the Iraqi government in its war against extremist terrorism, and its efforts to fight corruption and to build the state. His Excellency confirmed that ISIS and its danger still exists, and it is necessary to continue the joint action to defeat it.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Pakistani Prime Minister for the warm welcome to the delegation of Iraq, commending the preparations made for the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Dr Qahtan Taha Khalaf, the Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences, Dr Abbas Kadhem Obaid, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Pakistan, Mr Hamid Abbas Lafta, and the Director of the Islamic Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counsellor Tamara Mahmoud have attended the meeting.
