Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq in Brasilia Meets Minister of Agriculture

 Chargé d’Affairs of the Republic of Iraq in Brasilia, Dr Firas Hasan Al-Hamdani, has met Mrs. Teresa Cristina, Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, at the headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, in the presence of Mr Osmar Shakhfi, President of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, and Mr Thamer Mansour, Secretary-General of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. 

The Chargé d’Affaires pointed out Iraq’s openness to developing the cooperation with Brazil in various sectors, including the agricultural sector, as a result of the advanced technologies in agriculture which Brazil enjoys, as well as the historic relations between the two countries, stating that the government exerts all efforts to develop the agricultural sector, calling on Brazil to invest in Iraq, given that a fertile and promising investment environment. 

On her part, the Minister of Agriculture stated that a new chapter should begin in the relations of the agricultural sector between Brazil and the Arab countries in general and Iraq in particular, given its natural resources that are important for agricultural production inputs, including phosphate, phosphorous, sulfur, urea and potassium, and that the Iraqi market is promising for Brazilian agricultural products and the conditions are in place for increasing trade exchange. 

At the end of the meeting, the Chargé d’Affaires handed over a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Iraq and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Federative Republic of Brazil to enhance the cooperation between the two countries, and he expressed his desire to respond quickly by the competent Brazilian authorities and to make their observations on the draft to proceed with its signiture.
