Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets the Under- Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs in New York

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has met Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, they discussed the political and security situation on the Iraqi arena, the international support provided for Iraq and the diplomatic efforts made to develop Iraq’s relations with the various countries of the world, and their repercussions on activating the common interests, contributing to reconstruction, construction,  investment, and the importance of sustaining the momentum of political negotiations to form the upcoming Iraqi government, in a way that reflects the aspirations of the Iraqi people for a strong government able to manage the country’s capabilities for the upcoming stage.

The Minister has commended the support provided by the United Nations for Iraq in various fields and the mobilization of international support in the interest of Iraq.

On her part, Ms Rosemary DiCarlo commended the recent electoral process which was held on 10/10/2021, expressing her happiness with the extent of women’s participation in the parliamentary elections, which represent a noticeable and important increase in the development of the political process in the country and a model to follow under the framework of the empowerment of women.

Ms DiCarlo has valued Iraq’s role in establishing security and stability in the Middle East and bringing opponents together. This role was formulated in holding the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, as well as Iraq’s role in fighting terrorism and encountering the security challenges posed by the remnants of the terrorist organisation ISIS.
