Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to United Nations, President of the Security Council

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has met the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia, President of the Security Council for the month of February 2022, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister congratulated the Russian Federation for assuming the presidency of the regular Security Council for the month of February, wishing the Permanent Representative of Russia success in this task, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the Government of the Russian Federation for supporting Iraq and enabling it to fulfil its obligations. The two sides also discussed Iraq’s concerns and vision towards the Security Council’s decision on ending the file of compensation and the mandate of the relevant United Nations committee, and Iraq’s exit from the procedures of Chapter VII. The Minister affirmed that Iraq’s commitment to the international mechanisms is ongoing and developing to serve the interests of Iraq and its people, preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and support the future of its regional and international relations in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
