Undersecretary of Multilateral and Legal Affairs Receives Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco to Iraq

On 09/01/2022, Dr Qahtan Taha Khalaf, the Undersecretary of Multilateral and Legal Affairs, received Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco to Iraq, residing in Amman, Mr Abdel Karim Bin salam. During the meeting, they discussed reopening the Moroccan Embassy in Baghdad, enhancing means of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, exchanging of official visits between officials and developing of a mechanism to facilitate the issue of visas.

The Undersecretary affirmed the importance of the upcoming visit of the Moroccan Foreign Minister to Baghdad, and the Iraqi government’s welcome of this visit.

The meeting also discussed the issue of cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, intelligence and security cooperation between the two countries, as well as support for the candidacy for international and regional organisations and the keenness of the Government of Iraq to support the Kingdom of Morocco in nominations.

On his part, Mr Bin salam extended his thanks and appreciation for the warm reception and the opportunity for this meeting, confirming the issue of implementing the judicial cooperation between the two countries, in accordance with the agreements which had been signed in this regard, and promised to convey the important topics of the meeting to the Moroccan authorities. He also affirmed his country’s keenness to reopen the Moroccan Embassy in Baghdad.

 Minister Plenipotentiary Dr Osama Al-Rifai, acting head of the Department of Arab Affairs has attended the meeting.
