Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI)

On 13/12/2021, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met Mrs Jeanine Plasschaert, representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Mission to Iraq (UNAMI), and Ms Daniela Bell, Director of the Human Rights Office in UNAMI.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues of common interest and the Iraqi government’s efforts to support and enhance human rights and the importance of bilateral cooperation and coordination within such a framework.

The Minister affirmed the importance of exchanging information, maintaining communication and meetings with the official relevant authorities and the UN office, and Iraq’s keenness to respect human rights, follow up this sensitive and important file, and consolidate the relationship with the UN and official Iraqi authorities.

On her part, Mrs Plasschaert thanked the official bodies cooperating with the UNAMI office, confirming the importance of continuing coordination in a way that contributes to enhance the human rights file in Iraq.
