Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Ottawa meets Prime Minister of Ontario, Mr. Doug Ford
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Ottawa, Mr. Wadie Petty, met the Prime Minister of Ottawa Mr. Doug Ford. They discussed issues of mutual interest to strengthen relations with the Province of Ontario.
Mr. Petty pointed out the importance of the Province of Ontario in Canada due to its great economic, political and commercial potentials, proposing a partnership or twinning with one of the Iraqi governorates; especially the twinning of Baghdad with Ottawa. They also discussed subjects concerning the commercial, economic, health and educational fields, and encouraging companies in Ontario to enter the Iraqi market.
The meeting also included a discussion of the conditions of the Iraqi community; about 70% of which concentrated in the province of Ontario. They became channels that can be used to develop relations between their mother country and the second country, in addition to the possibility of carry out many cultural and social activities in a way that highlights Iraqi culture and diversity.
For his part, Mr. Ford expressed his happiness with this meeting, stressing his full readiness to make all efforts to develop economic ties between Ontario and Iraq; especially with regard to enhancing trade exchange between the two sides.
The meeting also included the topic of the new Iraqi consulate, which Iraq decided to open in the city of Toronto / Mississauga where Mr. Ford welcomed this step, stressing its importance to serve the people of the community in the city of Toronto and the surrounding areas.
