Foreign Minister Receives His Belgian Counterpart in New York. He Calls on All Countries to Cooperate with Iraq and implement their obligations to Extradite Their Nationals of Families of Terrorists Detained in Iraq
The Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received, at his residence in New York, the Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Willems, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Minister began the meeting by praising the support that Iraq received from the European Union countries in preparing for holding early parliamentary elections on schedule and sending the European Union mission to monitor the elections to ensure their legitimacy and transparency, stressing that these elections constitute a turning point on the future of the political and democratic process in Iraq، expressing his aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, and the contribution of Belgian companies to invest in Iraq and reconstruction.
For her part, the Belgian Foreign Minister praised Iraq’s efforts in communicating with many countries for the purpose of securing the return of the families of terrorists detained in Iraq to their home countries.
In this context, the Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called on all countries to cooperate with Iraq, in implementation of their obligations to extradite their nationals of the families of terrorists detained in Iraq, and the importance of concerted international efforts, especially those concerned for the purpose of identifying appropriate solutions to this issue, as most countries have served to evacuate children without mothers, calling on those countries to understand the circumstances that Iraq is going through, as the Iraqi government is obliged to deal with them in accordance with national laws and legislation.
