Foreign Minister Meets His Indian Counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New York

On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, the Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the meetings of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Baghdad and New Delhi, ways of developing them, and opening horizons for joint cooperation in various fields to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein explained that Iraq is looking forward to building deep cooperation relations with India in various fields, especially increasing the trade volume, opening investment horizons, and urging the Indian side to invest in Iraq in health, agricultural, energy, and communications aspects, and twinning Iraqi and Indian universities, and facilitating scholarships for Iraqis wishing to study in Indian universities, and activate the memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ study centers, expressing Iraq’s thanks for India’s supportive stances for Iraq in international forums, and support it in the war against terrorism.

They also discussed many regional and international issues and their repercussions on international peace and security. The Minister stressed the importance of concerted efforts, exchanging experiences and information in the field of combating terrorism and coordinating positions on issues of common interest through regional and international organizations.
