Foreign Minister Receives a Copy Credentials of the New European Union Ambassador to Iraq
Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received on Sunday September 6,2021 a copy of the credentials of the new European Union Ambassador to Iraq , Mr. Phil Variola.
During the meeting, relations between Iraq and the European Union were reviewed, in addition to ways of increasing the volume of support and assistance to Iraq in eliminating the remnants of the terrorist organization of ISIS.
Importance of activating the partnership agreement, memoranda of understanding signed between Iraq and the European Union, exchanging experiences and supporting Iraq in the political, security, economic, and service fields were also discussed in the meeting.
His Excellency the Minister expressed readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all support for the Ambassador and the staff of the diplomatic mission in Baghdad.
For his part, Ambassador Phil Variola affirmed the European Union’s support to Iraq and respect for its sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs, praising efforts of the Iraqi government in holding the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership. He stressed the European Union’s continued humanitarian support, backup the Iraqi government’s efforts to combat terrorism and military advisors, emphasizing the promotion of relations between Iraq and countries of the European Union within the framework of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, encouraging big European companies to invest in Iraq, and work for the European Union to have a greater role in the international arena.
