Foreign Minister Meets Pakistani President Dr. Arif Alvi

On Wednesday, August 11, 2021, the Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi. They discussed ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two countries on issues of common interest, most importantly the security aspect in the common interest of the two friendly countries, affirming their keenness to develop and consolidate bilateral and economic relations between the two countries.

The Minister stressed that Iraq is looking forward to building economic partnerships with a number of countries in the world in order to rebuild and rehabilitate the infrastructure.

The two sides touched on the latest political developments in Iraq and the region, as the Minister stressed that Iraq is about to complete the requirements for holding free and fair parliamentary elections that restore public confidence in the political system. He also indicated that Iraq is working to reduce regional tensions and urge all parties to renounce violence and give priority to the language of dialogue forlasting stability in the interest of the peoples of the region.

For his part, the Pakistani president commended the evolvingrelationship between the two friendly countries, and ways ofdeveloping them, stressing his country’s support for the Iraqi government in its war against terrorism and extremism, and its efforts for fighting corruption and state-building, stressing that Iraq can regain its economic and political effectiveness.

The Pakistani President expressed his vision and highly appreciation for the ongoing initiatives within the Iraqi foreign policy and wished the next meeting of Iraq’s neighbouring states every success to achieve the interests of Iraq and the region.
