Iraqi Embassy in Damascus Arranges a Memorial Gathering on the occassion of passing of peot Muhammad Mahdi Al Jawahiri
Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Damascus arranged a memorial gathering on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the death of the greatest Arab poet, Muhammad Mahdi Al Jawahiri on July 26th., and the 122nd anniversary of his birth on July 27th.
A wreath was laid at the tomb of the poet, and the Iraqi Chargé d’Affairs, Yassin Sharif Nusaief delivered a speech on the occasion, in which he stressed that this initiative took place in accordance with the directives of H.E the Minister of Foreign affairs, Fuad Hussein to honor the Iraqi cultural figures abroad.
The Embassy presented a commemorative mural of Al Jawahiri to the Union of Writers and Writers on the occasion.
Head of the Arab Writers Union praised the initiative which confirms Iraq’s keenness to pride its cultural and intellectual figures.
The gathering was attended by the embassy’s diplomatic and administrative staff, the head of the General Union of Arab Authors and Writers, Dr. Muhammad al Hourani, a number of the union members, and Syrian intellectuals and poets.
