Foreign Minister Holds Meeting with His American Counterpart Anthony Blinken in Washington
On Friday, July 23, 2021, the Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fouad Hussein held a meeting with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken as part of the fourth round of strategic dialogue in Washington, DC.
The two sides discussed the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations at all levels. They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, the importance of intensifying consultations regarding regional issues, and challenges facing the stability of the region.
The Minister expressed the aspiration of Baghdad to support and strengthen bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington reflecting its strategy, stressing the need for cooperation to achieve the common interests of the two friendly peoples.
The two ministers also reviewed the strategic dialogue and reaffirmed the principles agreed upon by the two sides in the Strategic Framework Agreement.
For his part, Minister Blinken noted that the United States is committed to assisting Iraq and ensuring the security of elections, appreciating the reference of the Supreme Religious Leader, Al- Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani, to the need for international oversight, and the Security Council Resolution, noting his work with Congress to allocate five hundred million dollars to assist the Electoral Commission, provide training and advice, and encourage Iraqis to Broad participation in the upcoming elections, expressing his support for Iraq’s efforts to combat corruption and economic reform, confirming the United States remains committed to helping the Government of Iraq achieve a secure and prosperous future.
