Iraqi Ambassador to Brussels Participates in a Meeting of Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament
On May 27, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Brussels, Sadiq Al-Rikabi, participated in a joint meeting of the Committees for Relations with Iraq and Relations with the Countries of the Arab Mashreq in the European Parliament, devoted to exchanging views on a study prepared by the Netherlands Institute for International Relations (Clingendael) which dealt with the role of the European Union and its impact on the course of events in the Syrian and Iraqi arenas, in the presence of officials from the European Commission and representatives from the European Parliament.
At the beginning of the meeting, the authors of the study presented a summary, conclusions and recommendations of their study regarding the EU role in international crises and how the EU works on investing its soft power in consolidating its global stances to achieve its interests and the interests of countries dealing with the EU.
For his part, Mr. Al-Rikabi made an intervention in which he commended the relationship with the EU and its important role in Iraq, and touched on the development of relations between the two sides, especially after the entry into force of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the two sides, stressing the depth of this relationship, especially in the field of combating terrorism, economic cooperation and other matters.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing the exchange of views between researchers in European research institutes and Iraqi bodies with relations regarding the course of events in the Middle East.
