Ambassador Sadiq Al-Rikabi Meets Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament
On 23 April 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Brussels, H.E. Sadiq al-Rikabi participated in the meeting of the Committee on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament, which discussed Iraq’s foreign relations, especially with neighboring countries, in the presence of a number of European officials and representatives led by the head of the Committee on Relations with Iraq, the Spanish Socialist Representative, Mr. Domènec RUIZ DEVESA with the participation of Dr. Walter Posch, a researcher at the Austrian National Defense Academy, who gave a presentation on Iraq’s external relations with neighboring countries after 2003, and the challenges it faces from a European point of view.
In his intervention, Ambassador Al-Rikabi emphasized the importance of Iraqi-European relations and Iraq’s keenness to strengthen and develop these relations in all areas. With regards to the issue of Iraq’s foreign policy and its relations with neighboring countries, he indicated that Iraq inherited complex problems with its neighbors from the era of the former regime and that it is working to resolve them despite all complications. He also stressed that Iraq builds its relations with its neighbors from the principle of good neighborliness and non-Interference in internal affairs, moreover, Iraq plays a more balanced and more effective role to enhance security and stability, in a way that is reflected in all its parties, realizing the importance of peace in the region, calling on the European Union to take its desired role in supporting the stability of Iraq.
