Ambassador of Iraq to Italy Meets President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies
The Ambassador of Iraq to Italy H.E. Mrs. Safia Taleb Al-Suhail met with the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, H.E. Mr. Roberto Fico at the Montecitorio Palace, the seat of the Chamber of Deputies.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries at the levels of the Presidency, the Foreign Relations and Parliamentary Friendship Committees.
The meeting began with highlighting the importance of the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Iraq and the feelings of joy and gratitude that overwhelmed Iraqis of all spectrums with such historic visit to the land of Mesopotamia and the Iraqi government’s decision to set the sixth of March each year as “a day of tolerance and peaceful coexistence” on the occasion of the historic meeting that brought together his Holiness and His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Ali Al- Sistani, as well as the meeting of religions in the historic city of Ur.
Mrs. Al- Suhail emphasized the Iraqi parliament’s interest in developing cooperation and coordination with the Italian parliament and exchanging parliamentary visits. She also reviewed the existing preparations for holding early elections in Iraq this October, and the legislation approved by the Iraqi Council of Representatives to ensure that the elections are held on the scheduled date to ensure the inclusive representation of the Iraqi community with the broad participation of Iraqi youth.
For his part, Mr. Fico affirmed his keenness to develop parliamentary relations and work to expand horizons for cooperation and visit Iraq as soon as the exceptional health conditions of the Corona pandemic disappear.
