Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Prague Meets with Czech Foreign Minister

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Prague, Mrs. Sundus Omar Ali participated in a virtual meeting held by the Czech Foreign Minister Mr. Tomáš Petříček in the presence of a group of accredited female ambassadors in Prague on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

In her speech, Mrs. Ali indicated the historic role of women in Iraq, and that she is proud that the first female minister in the Middle East region was from Iraq, and currently women’s quota is 25% of the total members of the Iraqi Parliament.
She also gave a brief presentation on the Iraqi government’s efforts to ensure women’s rights and enhance their role, and the second national action plan on Security Council Resolution 1325 (Women, Peace and Security), and that the plan focuses on protecting women and girls affected by conflict from all forms of violence, especially sexual violence, and putting an end to escaping from punishment. She also noted that the Iraqi parliament recently enacted a law of Yazidi women and girls and women from other components who survived and have been subjected to the crimes of the terrorist ISIS, thus making Iraq the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to pass a law related to sexual violence during the conflict.
