Undersecretary of Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations Chairs Iraqi Delegation Participating in the Meetings of the Tripartite Committee Session (52) and the Technical Subcommittee Session (118) on Searching for missing Iraqis and Kuwaitis

The Undersecretary of Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Dr Qahtan Taha Khalaf, has headed the Iraqi delegation, which included representatives from the Ministries of Defence and Health, to participate in the work of the session (52) of the Tripartite Committee Meetings, and the session (118) of the Technical Subcommittee on searching for missing Iraqis and Kuwaitis as a result of the Second Gulf War In 1991, held in the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Amman, from 29/11-2/12/2021, chaired by the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the participation of representatives from the sisterly State of Kuwait, the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the Republic of France and in the presence of representatives of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) as an observer.
The two sides discussed the efforts exerted in the search and investigation of the missing persons, as His Excellency expressed the keenness of the Iraqi government and people to give the utmost cooperation based on brotherhood and in line with Iraq’s international obligations in this regard and the requirements of this humanitarian file.
During these meetings, 30 files of missing persons, whose remains were found in the Muthanna Desert (Al-Samawa) in 2019 and 2020, were closed, and their identities were identified after matching the DNA with their families.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere condolences and solidarity with their families, praying to God Almighty to grant their families patience and solace. Affirming that it will spare no effort to continue working with the rest of the concerned Iraqi institutions and the brothers in the State of Kuwait and friendly countries in cooperating in order to end this humanitarian file.
