Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels Meets the Deputy Secretary-General of the External Action Service of the European Union

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels, Sadiq Al-Rikabi, has met the Deputy Secretary-General of the External Action Service of the European Union, Mr. Enrique Mora, at the headquarters of the European Union.

 During the meeting, they exchanged views on many files of common interest, and the latest political developments on the regional and international arenas.

 Ambassador Al-Rikabi affirmed the importance of implementing the agreement of cooperation and partnership between Iraq and the European Union, and the importance of the activity made by both sides to ease tensions in the Middle East and promote the language of dialogue and cooperation between the various parties.

They also discussed the parliamentary election that had taken place recently in Iraq and the procedures of the Independent Electoral Commission to complete looking into the objections and appeals by the political forces and the activity undertaken by these forces to form the new government in accordance with the legal mechanisms stipulated in the constitution and Iraqi laws in force.

They exchanged views regarding the European Union’s movement on the resumption of the negotiations between Iran and the rest of the signatory States to the Iranian nuclear agreement (JCPOA) and the outcome of the recent talks in Brussels between Mr Mora and the representatives of the Iranian government.

On his part, Mr Mora commended the great role played by Iraq in alleviating crises and conflicts in the Middle East, affirming the need for continued consultation between Iraq and the European Union in this field.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Dr Fadel Rahim has attended the meeting.
