Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of United Nations and Chief of the International Investigation Team for Accountability for the Crimes Committed by Terrorist Organization ISIS

On Wednesday, October 27, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Fuad Hussein received the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the International Investigation Team for Accountability for the Crimes committed by the Terrorist Organization ISIS, Mr. Christian Richard.

During the meeting, they reviewed the tasks entrusted to the International Team to support local efforts to hold accountable the terrorist organization ISIS.

The Minister affirmed the support for the mission of the International Team in order to achieve the purpose of its formation under UN Security Council Resolution 2379 in 2017, and to fulfill its mandate entrusted to it in accordance with the team’s competencies, in full respect of Iraq’s sovereignty and jurisdiction over crimes committed in its territory.

On his part, Mr. Richard confirmed the continuation of constant communication and coordination with the competent Iraqi authorities to implement the programmes of the International Team, represented by supporting the local authorities to hold the terrorist organization ISIS accountable, capacity building and the use of advanced technology on evidence preservation and archiving, commending at the same time the efforts made by the Iraqi side in facilitating the tasks of the International Team.
