Ambassador Al Suhail Participates in the Informal Consultations on the FAO Science and Innovation Strategy

Ambassador Safiya Talib Al Suhail, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Organizations in Rome, Chair of the Near East and North Africa Group to the FAO, participated in the informal consultations on the organization’s Science and Innovation Strategy, which was held virtually.

The Director-General of FAO, Mr. Qu Dennyu, opened the consultation’s session stressing, in his speech, the important role of science and innovation in the transition process towards sustainable food systems.

Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, the organization’s chief scientist, presented a conceptual framework for the FAO’s strategy on science and innovation, which can be consistent with the current challenges of political, economic and environmental crises.

Ambassador Al Suhail stressed the importance of taking advantage of holding the regional conference in Baghdad early 2022 to link the goals of the conceptual framework for science and innovation with the goals of member states and then turn the framework into an executable plan.
