Head of International Organizations and Conferences Department delivers Iraq’s speech at celebration of twentieth anniversary of adoption of Durban Declaration and Program of Action

Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Dr. Abbas Kadhem Obaid, delivered the speech Iraq at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action. He emphasized that twenty years since its adoption it continues to provide a comprehensive and complete roadmap to addressing and putting an end to racism and discrimination.

Adding that racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance constitute a denial of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and that equality and non-discrimination are fundamental principles of the International Human Rights Law.

Stressing that the Iraqi constitution prohibits any entity or approach that adopts racism, terrorism, takfir, or any approach that incites or promotes racism, noting Iraq’s support for efforts to achieve justice and equality for people of African descent, and that the only way to achieve comprehensive peace in Palestine is to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories, and respect the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
