Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received on September 23, 2021, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, Vladimir Voronkov, on the sidelines of The 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The two sides discussed the efforts made by the Iraqis in their war against ISIS terrorist gangs, in addition to the support The international community presented to Iraq, and importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination with all countries of the world to confront the common global threat of terrorism.

Mr. Hussein affirmed that Iraq is at the forefront of countries that have fought terrorism and achieved great victories, expressing his readiness to cooperate with the international bodies concerned with combating terrorism in order to strengthen efforts aimed at eliminating this dangerous scourge once and for all.

He stated that: “ Iraq is following with great interest the issue of camp Al Hol, which hosts women and children and foreign fighters of different nationalities.”

The Minister stressed that legal procedures will be applied to all those who committed criminal terrorist acts against the Iraqi people, calling on the countries concerned to assume their responsibility to end this file.

For his part, Mr. Voronkov praised Iraq’s efforts in combating terrorism, expressing his readiness to support Iraq in all its efforts.
