Foreign Minister meets his Syrian Counterpart and confirms Iraq is working for Syrian’s return to occupy its seat in the Arab League

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met on Wednesday 22/9/2021 the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Faisal Miqdad, on the sideline of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, opening new horizons for joint action, in addition to reviewing the overall developments taking place in the Arab, regional and international regions.

Mr. Hussein stated that the stability of Syria concerns Iraq, and that the unstable security situation and the presence of ISIS and other terrorist organizations in Syria is a threat to the stability and security of Iraq. He stressed that Iraq continues its efforts to return Syria to its seat in the Arab League. 

For his part, Mr.Miqdad affirmed his keenness to activate bilateral relations in all fields, and to intensify political dialogue between the two countries, explaining: the victories achieved against terrorism in Syria and Iraq is common victories. Emphasizing that Iraq has proved the importance of its role in solving the issues of the region, and that Iraq and Syria must continue to work together; to maintain security and stability, and to face the challenges facing the region.

He also praised the great efforts made by Iraq and the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the past period towards Syria and Arab, regional and international issues.
