Minister of Foreign Affairs affirms Iraq’s aspiration to raise pace of bilateral cooperation with Manama at various levels.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Fuad Hussein met on Thursday 16/9/2021 his Bahraini counterpart Mr. Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, on the sidelines of the Joint Ministerial meeting of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf held in Riyadh. 

Mr. Hussein stressed the importance of strengthening aspects of bilateral relations by diversifying the aspects of consultations to contribute to achieving the aspirations of Baghdad and Manama, and raising the pace of bilateral cooperation for the overall ongoing efforts, at various political, economic, health, and development levels. 

He indicated the importance of holding the meetings of the joint committee as soon as possible, and activating the memorandum of understanding in political consultations. Pointing out that national security is connected to the security of the region, and its repercussions are reflected on the region. In the context of further consolidating bilateral relations, the Minister expressed Iraq’s readiness to raise the level of diplomatic representation, and to overcome all obstacles, calling for fruitful bilateral cooperation in international forums. 

He also stressed the importance of re-examining the technical agreements concluded between the two countries on education, tourism, and investment; this is in the context of activating the cooperation between the two countries. 

Noting: that Iraq pursues a policy of balance in its relations, especially with neighboring countries, and its positions on regional issues, stressing that the Iraqi government looks forward to building the best strategic relations with the Gulf states based on the principle of activating common interests. 

For his part, Bahraini Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Latif Al-Zaiyani affirmed the Kingdom’s interest, and his Majesty’s emphasis on strengthening relations with Iraq, pointing to his country’s interest in the stability of the security situation in Iraq because of its positive impact on stability in the region. Noting: Iraq’s security is our security, and we care about its unity and prosperity, Noting: We are interested in seeing a proactive and prosperous Iraq, and we are interested in extending bridges of cooperation in various fields. Adding that Bahrain supports Iraq in all international forums to restore its position in the region, we are pleased with the results of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, and we congratulate you on its success.
