Minister of Foreign Affairs receives copy of credentials of new Ambassador of Sweden to Baghdad

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received on Tuesday 17, 2021 a copy of the credentials of the new Swedish ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Jonas Lofven, and they discussed the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Stockholm, and ways to enhance them to achieve the interests of the two friendly peoples. 

The Minister wished the Ambassador success in his duties in Baghdad, expressing the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all support for the success of the diplomatic mission’s work. He extended Iraq’s thanks and appreciation for the Sweden’s supportive stances in international forums, looking forward to increasing the volume of cooperation between the two countries. The Minister referred to the role of the Iraqi community in Sweden in political and social life, where the Iraqi community constitutes a high proportion of the Swedish society compared to the rest of the communities. 

He also called for the signing of memoranda of understanding in various fields, and the contribution to Swedish companies to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraqi cities. 

For his part, Mr. Jonas Lofvan, Sweden’s new ambassador to Iraq, stressed the depth and strength of relations between Baghdad and Stockholm, indicating: We will work on everything that would enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
