Iraq Signs Administrative Arrangement Formula with the European Union Delegation on Monitoring Parliamentary Elections in Iraq

The formula for the administrative arrangement between the Republic of Iraq and the European Union to monitor the 2021 parliamentary elections was signed on August 8, 2021, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nizar Al Khairullah, on behalf of the Iraqi government, and Ambassador Martin Huth, Head of the European Union Mission in Baghdad, on behalf of the European Union .

Under this arrangement, the European Union Election Monitoring Mission is committed to carrying out its mission with complete impartiality, objectivity and independence, and all observers in will respect the rules of the Code of Conduct of European monitors. In return, the concerned institutions in the Government of the Republic of Iraq shall provide the mission with the assistance required to achieve the mission’s assignment. 

On the other hand, head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Judge Jalil Adnan, signed at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a similar formula with the European Union in response to the invitation of the independent commission to the European Union to participate in the parliamentary electoral observation, after the UN Security Council issues its resolution no. 2576 on extending the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and expanding the scope of its jurisdiction and the mandate given to it, to include monitoring the Iraqi general elections scheduled for October 10, 2021, in response to the request of the Iraqi government.

UNAMI mission will encourage the international and regional observers invited by the Iraqi government to monitor and coordinate the elections, and provide logistical and security support.
