Iraq and China Hold a New Round of Political Consultations

    The third round of political consultations between the Republic of Iraq and the People’s Republic of China was held under the chairmanship of the Foreign Ministry’s Senior Undersecretary, Mr. Nizar Al Khairallah on the Iraqi side, and the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Mr. Deng Li.

   The two sides reviewed the most important steps taken by the two countries in developing bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, in addition to addressing regional and international issues of common interests.

   The two sides stressed the need to solve problems that the Middle East is witnessing by peaceful means as they negatively affect the security and stability of the entire region.

  They also agreed on continuing coordination to confront the Corona pandemic, combat terrorism and extremism, and exchange information regarding terrorist movements.

   For his part, the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed his government’s support for the electoral process to be held in Iraq next October, noting that his government appreciates the efforts made by Iraq to ease tension in the region through initiatives with some countries in the region, and that China strongly supports the return of Iraq to play its important and active role in the region.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Shorash Khalid Saied, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to China.
