Foreign Minister meets Spanish Foreign Minister in Madrid

On June 25th, 2021, the Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein and his accompanying delegation met with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Arancha González. During the meeting, joint views were exchanged on bilateral relations and the current situation in the region, as the Minister presented the most important preparations for holding the elections next October and current challenges in the region, commending the support of Spain and the EU to send observers during the upcoming elections.

The Minister pointed out that Iraq and Spain have many common interests, noting the importance of benefiting from the Spanish expertise in the field of industry and agriculture, exchanging experiences in various sectors, enhancing investment and trade exchange, and supporting Iraqi and Spanish companies for joint investment.
He also stressed the need to continue bilateral meetings to enhance cooperation with Spain and hold bilateral memoranda of understanding in relevant areas and activate the work of the Iraqi-Spanish joint committee.

The Minister also invited the Spanish Foreign Minister to visit Iraq.
For her part, Minister González stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, joint coordination, and Spain’s willingness to cooperate and make progress in the field of bilateral relations, welcoming the invitation to visit Iraq soon.

The meeting was followed by a joint press conference, a summary of the visit and issues of common interest were presented to the attendees and the questions of the journalists were answered.
