Iraqi Ambassador to Ottawa participates in a Virtual Meeting of the Arab Council of Ambassadors in Canada, with the Participation of the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament

On 2 June 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ottawa, H.E. Mr. Dr. Wadee Batti participated in a virtual session held by the Council of Arab Ambassadors, where the meeting was hosted by Mr. Anthony Rota, Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, in response to an invitation from the Council.
At the outset of his speech, the Ambassador extended his thanks and appreciation to Mr. Rota, for accepting the invitation and for his participation in this session, referring to the depth of Arab-Canadian relationships and the keenness of Iraq to develop this relation in particular which is in the interest of all parties.
Mr. Batti also thanked Canada for its vital role in Iraq, in particular the decision to extend the Canadian Forces mission within the NATO mission in Iraq, Canada’s participation in the international coalition against ISIS, and the assistance Canada provides to Iraq in various fields.
He pointed to the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between Iraq and Canada and reactivating the Iraqi-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
For his part, Mr. Rota, began his speech by thanking the Council for the invitation, and stressing the need to maintain communication between the Canadian side and the Council of Arab Ambassadors., and touched upon the cooperation of the Canadian Parliament in light of the Covid-19 crisis with all parties through virtual meetings. He also stressed the great desire and role that Canada plays in bringing peace to the region, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and encouraging the development of relations at the parliamentary level in the region through parliamentary friendship committees, in a way that ensures the maintenance of communication between peoples, since members of Parliament represent the people.
He added that Canada is interested in trade and economic issues and is open to them with all countries in the region.
For their part, Arab ambassadors addressed, in their interventions, the issues and challenges facing the Middle East and North Africa region, in addition to issues of bilateral relations with Canada and ways to develop them.
