Permanent Representative Delivers Iraq’s Speech at 30th Special Session of Human Rights Council on Palestine

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Abdul Karim Hashem Mustafa delivered Iraq’s speech at the meeting of the 30th special session of the Human Rights Council on the serious human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, which was held on 27 May 2021 in Geneva.
The Permanent Representative affirmed that the Palestinian issue is the main engine of the global human conscience, and welcomed the ceasefire agreement and the efforts made to achieve it, especially the efforts of the brotherly government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the contributions of other countries, calling on giving priority to the main cause of the recent events, namely continuous violations of human rights by the occupying power, forced displacement in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and other neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem, the establishment of the policy of apartheid, and other serious violations.
He renewed Iraq’s unlimited support for the just and humane Palestinian cause, condemned all the oppressive practices carried out by the occupying power against the Palestinian people, and called on the international community to put an end to the policy of impunity, stressing that the solution is to end the occupation and grant the Palestinian people the right to self-determination in establishing their independent state with its capital Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
The Permanent Representative also called on the member states of the Human Rights Council to support the draft resolution, which Iraq participated in submitting within the group of OIC countries.
