Foreign Minister Commends Netherlands’ Stances Supporting Iraq

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein affirmed Baghdad’s keenness to promote bilateral cooperation at various levels with the Netherlands in order to achieve the common interests of the two peoples, noting that the support provided by the Dutch side to Iraq shows the distinguished level of relations between the two countries in all fields.
The Minister commended the support provided by the Netherlands to Iraq through the United Nations and other organizations in combating ISIS, as well as the training support for the Iraqi military and security forces.
This came during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Dutch counterpart, H.E. Mr. Stef Blok in The Hague on the evening of Wednesday 19 May 2021.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to continue bilateral cooperation between the two countries in confronting Coronavirus, and address its health and economic implications, in addition to prevention measures, and the exchange of expertise in this regard.

The Iraqi government’s decision to hold free and fair elections was also discussed, Mr. Hussien explained that Iraq has sent a letter to the UN Security Council to provide support and send observers to hold the elections on time.
The Minister also reviewed the economic reform priorities that the Iraqi government intends to implement during the next phase, highlighting some of the most important challenges facing Iraq and the region.

The two sides also discussed the rounds of strategic dialogue between Iraq and the United States of America, and their importance in re-formulating bilateral relations between the two countries, and its impact on relations with the allied countries against terrorism.
They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, and the minister emphasized that regional and international tensions are reflected in the Iraqi arena, calling for the adoption of the principle of dialogue in resolving the crises afflicting the region, and asserting the need for intense joint action to stop interferences in Iraqi internal affairs.
For his part, Mr. Blok expressed his country’s support for Iraq’s efforts to achieve security and stability, affirming the continuation of cooperation between the two countries, and work for peace and prevent escalation.
