Foreign Minister Receives Russian Deputy Prime Minister

Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received H.E. Mr. Yury Borisov, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Russian side at the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Baghdad and Moscow, and ways to promote them and meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

The Minister expressed Iraq’s keenness to develop the historical relations that bind the two countries, calling for expanding horizons for cooperation, and explaining that the Iraqi-Russian relations are witnessing a remarkable development. He called for the meeting of the ninth session of the Joint Iraqi-Russian Committee to be held in Moscow during this year.

The two sides discussed a number of joint cooperation files in the fields of energy, economy, development of agricultural technology, and facilitating the granting of entry visas to investors and diplomats from both countries. They also discussed supporting Iraqi students and their residency renewal, developing tourism, increase support, and facilitating flights for tourism in both countries.
The Minister praised the vital role played by Russia in fighting the terrorist organization ISIS, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation in various fields, including continuation of training Iraqi forces and exchange intelligence information to prevent the return of terrorist groups’ activities.
They also discussed the Iraqi security file and its relationship with neighboring countries, as well as the situation in the Middle East, and means of joint cooperation to alleviate tension, and reduce conflicts in the area.
