Undersecretary for Political Planning Affairs Participates in Ministerial Meeting of the Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue

The Undersecretary for Political Planning Affairs, H.E. Dr. Saleh Al-Tamimi participated in the Ministerial Meeting for Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue – in its second session, via video conferencing.
Mr. Al-Tamimi delivered the speech of Iraq in which he reiterated the importance of the Arab- Japanese dialogue since its establishment as a platform to build on common grounds that bring Arab peoples together with the friendly Japanese people, and benefit from their expertise, wide legacy as well as the outstanding human, material or technological capabilities in all levels.
Mr. Al-Tamimi affirmed that this forum is the cornerstone for raising issues of common interest, especially in light of the exceptional challenges that had health, economic and geopolitical implications due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and in this context Iraq aspires to further cooperation with Japan in the field of addressing the critical repercussions of the virus on the peoples of the world.

On the other hand, he called on the participating countries to exchange ideas and continue coordination to address the threats related to terrorism and extremism, resolve conflicts by peaceful means, prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction, respect international laws, and promote human rights and democracy.
Mr. Al-Tamimi appreciated the principled stances of the government and people of Japan on the prime Arab issue – the Palestinian issue, and again called for coordination and consolidation of efforts between the Arab group and Japan amongst relevant countries and organizations, especially under the new US administration, in order to work to find appropriate solutions based on the Arab Peace Initiative as soon as possible.

Mr. Al-Tamimi also praised the contributions made by the Japanese government during the past few years to support the restoration of stability in the countries that suffer from conflicts and the countries affected by them, as well as its contributions to the return of the displaced people to their areas and their efforts through the work of the relevant international organizations.
Iraq’s stance is affirmed with regards to the freedom of navigation and respect for international law, and this matter guarantees the interests of exporting and importing countries in the field of energy and trade exchange between them.
Mr. Al-Tamimi concluded his speech by appreciating the efforts made by the organizers to hold this meeting, stressing the importance of continued communication and exchange of views between the Arab and Japanese sides, especially on urgent and important issues for both sides in order to achieve a mutual understanding and preserve common interests, wishing success to the work of this session to achieve the aspirations of the respective countries.
