Iraqi PR to FAO Assumes Presidency of the Near East Group at the Organization

The Iraqi Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organizations in Rome, H.E. Mrs. Safia Al-Suhail, received the position of president of the Near East Group at (FAO) from the permanent representative of the Republic of Sudan, H.E.Abdel-Wahab Al-Hijazi, in a ceremony that took place prior to the meeting held on Wednesday 31 March 2021, in the presence of the representatives of the group’s member states, the president of the Group of 77 and China, H.E. Carlos Bernado Cherniak, Ambassador of Argentina, the regional coordinator of the organization’s president’s office, and the representative of the organization’s regional office for the Near East region.

During the meeting, issues related to regional affairs within the initiatives and programs related to the organization’s work within the group were discussed, and the latest developments within this framework. Representatives of the member states presented to the group in the 112th session of the Constitutional Affairs Committee, the 74th session of the Commodity Problems Committee, and the 185th session of the Financial Committee on the latest briefings, updates with detailed reports.
Mrs. Al-Suhail and the group thanked the efforts made by Ambassador Hijazy, former president and the staff of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sudan for the work accomplished by them when they preside the group.
