Foreign Minister delivers Iraq’s speech at Ministerial Meeting of the International Coalition to Defeat ISIS

On 30 March 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, delivered the speech of Iraq at the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which was held via video conference.

At the beginning of his speech, the Minister expressed Iraq’s appreciation to the countries of the International Coalition for their support in defeating the ISIS terrorist group, and the efforts made in supporting the restoration of stability through providing basic services to liberated cities, helping with the return of the displaced persons to their cities, and strengthening reconstruction efforts. H.E. extended thanks to the NATO mission in Iraq for its efforts in building capacities in the fields of security, training, and consultations.
Mr. Hussien also stressed the importance of reinforcing action and uniting international efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria, as it has a direct impact on regional security and stability, and that instanility in Syria may affect the security situation in Iraq in the future.
He called for addressing the humanitarian situation of families in Al-Hol camp in Syria, preventing ISIS from penetrating the camps of the displaced to spread its extremist ideology, reorganize and regroup.
Minister Hussein stressed the stance of the Iraqi government and people in continuing to fight ISIS and eliminate it via military operations and intellectual awareness, and that the security forces have accumulated experiences in this field by now, and have extensive information about this terrorist organization and its elements, as well as experiences on how to fight and defeat these terrorist groups.
H.E. also indicated that the Iraqi government has made substantial efforts to facilitate the safe return of the displaced persons through a set of procedures, including creating conditions that enable them to safely return to their original areas.
