Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim received his Egyptian counterpart, Mr. Sameh Shoukry, who made a visit to Baghdad carrying a message from the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi addressed to the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Barham Salih expressing his thanks and appreciation for Iraq’s position in support of the historical water rights of Egypt in the negotiations of the Renaissance Dam, and the rejection of unilateral measures, with Iraq stressing the need to observe the principles of international law, especially the principle of fair and equitable use of the Nile River waters as it is one of the downstream countries, and to praise Iraq’s efforts in light of its assumption of the previous session of the League of Arab States Council / session 152.
The position of Iraq is in line with the decisions of the League of Arab States meetings / session 153, and an expression of the depth of brotherhood ties and the strategic cooperation relations between Baghdad and Cairo. The two Ministers discussed ways to advance the fields of bilateral cooperation to broader prospects in the coming period, which reflects the depth and historical relations between the two brotherly countries, and work to develop them at all levels. They also exchanged views on several current regional issues, the most important of which are Palestine, and developments in Syria , Libya, and Yemen.
