The Iraqi Chargé d’Affaires in Yerevan Meets the Foreign Minister of Republic of Armenia

The Chargé d’affaires of Iraq in Yerevan Mr. Izz Al-Din Rashid Haji met the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan at the headquarters of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, they discussed the situation in the region and the recent events in Iraq, in addition to Armenia’s interest in maintaining stability and avoiding any escalation in the region, and stressed that Armenia expresses to all of its partners this position, and also expressed his condolences for the Iraqi victims’ casualties as a result of these events.

Mr. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan touched on the bilateral relations and the agenda of the joint Iraqi-Armenian committee, pointing to the need for continued cooperation in various fields, including education, tourism, information technology, energy and transportation.

On his part, the Chargé d’Affaires expressed his sincere thanks for this meeting and for his condolences, then gave a brief explanation about the recent events and the position of the Iraqi government which is the need to respect the sovereignty of states and not to interfere in their internal affairs and pointed to the diplomatic steps taken by the government in the wake of those events, and in this regard he stated that Iraq looks forward to the continued support of the friendly Republic of Armenia for Iraq issues, and touched on the agenda of the Iraqi-Armenian Joint Committee and indicated the memoranda of understanding ready for signing by both parties.
