The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Rome Meets with Head of Foreign Relations Committee and Discusses Strengthening Parliamentary Relations

The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Rome, Mrs. Safia Taleb Al-Suhail met with the head of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Parliamentary Assembly Mr. Piero Fassino.

The developments in Iraq and the government’s decision to hold early elections next June were discussed, as well as the latest political developments at the regional and international levels, and the importance of joint action to open greater prospects of cooperation and coordination between Iraqi and Italian parliamentarians, and their counterparts in the Foreign Relations Committee in Baghdad  the importance of Parliament in strengthening the bonds of popular relations and opening prospects for cooperation in all political, economic, cultural and academic fields.

On his part, Mr. Fassino welcomed the visit of the Iraqi ambassador to the committee, describing it as a very important visit to review the latest developments and discuss prospects for cooperation, stressing his readiness for all forms of cooperation with the ambassador and the embassy and to hold meetings with his counterpart, the head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives through the virtual mechanism provided until life returns to normal.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Al-Suhail presented a heritage gift of an important Iraqi archaeological symbols that reflects and embodies the status of the Assyrian civilization and is made of Iraqi national industrial textiles, referring to the high symbolism of the souvenir presented, which carries a message of thanks to Italy and the Italian people for what they provided in support in the cultural and archaeological file and the support provided by Italy bilaterally and through its international, national and international institutions, including UNESCO to support the maintenance and restoration of antiquities, in addition to archaeological excavations, reconstruction of the National Museum, restoration of smuggled antiquities and other important projects in support of the revitalization of the marshes, and the city of Ur and the role it plays in the reconstruction of archaeological areas in the city of Mosul and elsewhere.
