Foreign Minister: The current government focuses on decision-making being in Baghdad
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Mr. Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma.
The two sides discussed security and political developments in the region, praising the points of convergence and cooperation between Iraq and the Russian Federation, especially in confronting the remnants of Da’esh terrorist organization.
Minister Fuad Hussein explained the importance of the Russian role in this regard, calling on Russian Federation to continue its support for Iraq, as well as to benefit from Russian expertise in developing various investment sectors that reflect on the paths of economy and development.
Minister Fuad Hussein reviewed Iraq’s vision of resolving crises at the regional level, its commitment to a balanced foreign policy, and confronting interference in Iraq’s internal affairs, or interference in the Iraqi decision-making process.
Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his thanks to the Russian side for their stances in support of Iraq in the field of achieving security and stability.
The Minister called for the importance of the Iraqi-Russian Committee holding its meetings, and stated that a number of memorandums of understanding are to be signed between the two sides during the committee’s ninth session.
On hid part, the Chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee praised the Iraqi government’s commitment to a balanced vision towards the most sensitive issues in the region and the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, and Iraq’s steadfast and principled stance towards it, stressing that the Russian government supports the Iraqi government in protecting its independent decision without submitting to the policies of other countries.
