Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein made an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which began with a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani, followed by a meeting with his counterpart, Mr. Mohammad Javad Zarif, and with Mr. Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
This is the first visit of Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein to Tehran since he assumed his duties as Foreign Minister of Republic of Iraq, and it lasted for two days and began on Saturday 26/9/2020 and ended Sunday evening.
Minister Fuad Hussein conveyed a message from Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to the President of the Republic of Iran Mr. Rouhani which focused on developments in the region, and a review of the most important expected possibilities, and their implications.
They also discussed bilateral relations at all levels, and praised Tehran’s stances towards Iraq, and Minister Fuad Hussein expressed Baghdad’s full appreciation of these solidarity stances, and the most important pending issues between the two countries were also discussed.
After that, Minister Fuad Hussein met his counterpart, Mr. Mohammad Jawad Zarif, and discussed various issues related to relations between the two countries, regional issues, developments in the international arena, and the importance of sparing the region from further tension and instability.
Minister Fuad Hussein stated the government’s vision in dealing with the current challenges, affirming Iraq’s position and calling for resolving disputes by peaceful means as an ideal method for resolving crises, strengthening security, and stabilizing the region.
The Minister held a meeting with the head of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mr. Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf. This meeting represents the third round of the Ministers official tour in Iran, and reviewed the challenges facing the region, and dealt with the most prominent developments in the regional arena, and exchanged visions and ideas on the various challenges facing the region.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, and the need to support Iraqi-Iranian relations, and develop them to a broader prospect in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and fulfills the hopes and aspirations of the two peoples.
The Foreign Minister held a meeting with Mr. Shamkhani, the Iranian National Security Adviser.
The discussion dealt with the tense situation in the region, and the need to distant Iraq from it, Mr. Shamkhani confirmed his government’s support for Mr. Al-Kadhimi’s government.
The vision of both sides agreed that it is necessary for all Iraqi factions and parties to cooperate with the government of Mr. Al-Kadhimi to face the crises on Iraq and the region, as conflicts on the Iraqi arena may negatively affect stability in the region.
