Foreign Minister Stresses that Relation between Iraq and Germany is Important
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein
met with his German counterpart, Mr. Heiko Maas, at the German Foreign Ministry building,
The two sides discussed the Iraqi government’s efforts to preserve Iraq’s sovereignty, achieve political stability, and economic development.
The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the Iraqi-American strategic dialogue, and Iraq’s moves to be a meeting point and a basis for achieving regional security and stability.
The Minister affirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to holding the elections on time, in accordance with standards of integrity, transparency and international ovservance. The upcoming elections will be an opportunity to enhance the people’s confidence in the political process.
This statement came in the joint press conference held by the Minister, after his meeting with his German counterpart Mr. Heiko Maas.
Minister Fuad Hussein explained that Da’esh is still present in the outskirts of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Mosul, and the Anbar desert, and that Iraq needs the support of friends and partners in fighting this terrorist organization, as well as training and intelligence support.
On the relationship between Germany and Iraq, the Minister indicated that it is an important relationship, expressing his thanks for Germany’s stances, especially in confronting Da’esh terrorist organization.
On his part, Mr. Haikou Maas stated that his country stands by Iraq in its efforts to face all the challenges in the various security, economic and health sectors in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. Maas affirmed that his country will continue to support Iraq’s battle against Da’esh and promote reform of its economy, revealing
that his country has provided two billion euros to Iraq as financial aid to face its financial and security crises.
Minister Maas added that we value the reform project to strengthen the economy, and support the strengthening of security in Iraq, and we want to extend our mandate in the war against Da’esh stressing that Berlin supports the stability of the liberated areas in a sustainable way, he also expressed his appreciation for the effort and speed the Iraqi government made in liberating the German hostage.
