Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets with his Jordanian Counterpart in Baghdad

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein held extensive discussions with the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Mr. Ayman Al-Safadi in which they stressed the importance of developing historical relations between the two countries in a way that serves common interests in various political, economic, cultural, and social fields and bilateral coordination in international and regional forums.

The two Ministers also discussed a number of economic issues of strategic dimension, and emphasized that sectoral institutions in both countries are urged to move towards implementing agreed programs and projects, especially in the field of transport, electricity, border ports, industrial and commercial investments.

They also agreed on the importance of cooperation between the two countries in confronting the Coronavirus pandemic by exchanging experiences, health and technical capabilities to avoid negative effects.

Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his thanks to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for the attention and care it gives to the Iraqi community residing on its lands, and stressed the importance of respect for the sovereignty of Iraq by all regional and international parties, and Iraq’s refusal to be an arena for conflicts and settling scores.

The two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of common concern, including agreeing to follow up the decisions of the tripartite summit between Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt that wes held in Cairo to build strategic relationships based on common interests, and to face the challenges of terrorism and regional crises, and contributing to creating a system of peace and stability in the region.

The two Ministers also also discussed the latest developments in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, and agreed on the need to respect the sovereignty of states, not to interfere in their internal affairs, support initiatives that lead to political solutions to regional issues, the importance of working to reduce tension in the region, and distant Iraq from regional conflicts and bias policy , in addition to supporting its efforts in confronting terrorist organizations, and focus on reconstruction efforts.

The Minister expressed his thanks to Mr. Al-Safadi for his visit to Iraq, wishing success in his endeavors and great efforts to coordinate work between Baghdad and Amman, and looking forward to the continuation of the pace of work with the same spirit in the future; considering that Iraq and Jordan are two fraternal countries, and eternal neighbors that share many common interests.
