Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Stresses the Importance of Concerted Regional and International Efforts to Maintain Stability in the Region
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Cyprus, considering that Cyprus has its prominent position in the European Union.
This came in a telephone call that brought together Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein and his Cypriot counterpart, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides .
The Cypriot Foreign Minister extended his congratulations to Minister Fuad Hussein on the occasion of assuming his position as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq.
Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his aspiration for a bilateral meeting in the framework of activating the bilateral relations between the two countries, calling for organising relations through signing a memorandum of understanding, and expressed his welcome to the Cypriot companies and investors to work in Iraq as Iraq represents a promising investment environment.
Minister Fuad Hussein touched on a number of national issues, including the need for joint action at the regional and international level, to prevent other countries from interfering in Iraqi internal affairs and protecting its sovereignty, noting that internal stability is reflected in the stability of the region and explained that tension destabilises the security situation in the region, and thus international peace is affected.
On his part Mr. Nikos Christodoulides praised Iraq’s readiness to expand its relations with all the Gulf states and neighboring countries on the basis of the principle of Iraq’s new foreign policy, which is creating balance in these relations, stressing that tension between the countries of the region must be resolved through dialogue and non-interference in the internal affairs.
