The Permanent Representative of Republic of Iraq to United Nations Organizations in Rome Meets the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

The Permanent Representative of Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Organizations in Rome Mrs. Safia Al-Suhail, met with Mr. Gilbert F.Houngbo, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome at the headquarters of the Fund, the President of the Fund welcomed the accreditation of the Ambassador of Iraq to Italy as a permanent representative to the Fund and all forms of coordination and cooperation.

During the meeting, they discussed strengthening joint work and activating it, as the Ambassador stressed the need of Iraq for the support of the Fund in programs for the agricultural sector and farmers, improve the environment, enhance capabilities and build them through programs to support individuals and institutions, confirming Iraq’s will to implement an effective partnership between its institutions and the Fund, especially in the agreed program which will be implemented in southern Iraq soon, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and the official authorities concerned with environment and climate.

The Fund’s president pointed out that the Fund’s management pays great attention to Iraq as one of the founders of the fund in 1977 and its importance in the region, and expressed his aspiration to work with the permanent representative to strengthen technical cooperation between the Fund and Iraq.
