The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Madrid Meets Director General of Integration, Coordination and European Union Affairs, and Deputy Director of Economic and Financial Affairs of European Union in Spanish Foreign Ministry

The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Madrid, Dr. Adel Mustafa Kamel met with Mr. José Pascual Marco, Director General of Integration, Coordination and European Union Affairs at the Spanish Foreign Ministry, and Ms. Victoria Cartelin Ordonith, Deputy Director of Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Union in the Spanish Foreign Ministry, as part of the continuous diplomatic efforts to remove Iraq from the European Commission’s list of dangerous countries in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The ambassador began his speech by referring to the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries, as they are more than seven decades old, as well as the Kingdom’s role in combating terrorism within the Global Coalition and emphasized the two countries’ current efforts to develop those relations in the economic field.
The ambassador affirmed that Iraq is looking forward to Spain’s support to remove it from the European Commission’s list of high-risk countries, stressing that Iraq has completed the international procedures and standards required to exit the list, including the legislation of Law No. 39 of 2015 related to combating money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as its exit from the Financial Action Group’s list, (FATF) for countries that have deficiencies in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Jose Pascual reiterated his welcome to the ambassador’s visit and promised Spain’s support to Iraq through their representative in the European Union, seeking to expedite its removal from the list of countries with risks in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
