The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq to Holy See Meets with Prime Minister
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Holy See, Mr. Rahman Farhan Al-Amiri met with the Secretary of State (Prime Minister) HG Cardinal Pietro Parolin in his office.
The Ambassador expressed his great pleasure to work as ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Holy See, stressing his keenness to exert his utmost efforts to develop relations between Iraq and the Holy See .
The ambassador indicated that Iraq is a meeting place for religions that all agree on respect for the human being, dignity, and the promotion of a culture and values of peace, and he stressed the government’s insistence on the return of the displaced and the rehabilitation of women and children victims of Da’esh .
On his part, His Eminence Cardinal Parolin congratulated Ambassador Al-Amiri on presenting his credentials, and expressed his readiness to work with the ambassador to achieve security and peace in Iraq, indicating that terrorism has left tangible negative effects in Iraq, including the destruction of the areas that were under its control, and the decrease in the number of Christians due to immigration in the years from a million and a half to 300,000 Christians.
On the upcoming visit of Pope Francis, the ambassador stated that the government and people and the Marjayia are looking forward to the visit of your delegation to Iraq for the historic visit of His Holiness the Pope to Iraq and the city of Ur birth of the father of the prophets Ibrahim – peace be upon him – stressing that this visit constitutes an important priority as it will represent a great support for Iraq, and a special support for the Christians in Iraq.
